Everything you NEED to know about Levis!
You've seen the jeans, you've heard the name and you think you know the story... but do you really? We are here to tell you everything you NEED to know about Levis, new, old and everything in between!
Where did it all start?
You could walk into most high street stores today and find a pair of jeans... and in any colour, you want... blue, black, white, maybe even red. BUT did you know the first ever jeans were made by Levi Strauss in 1873? We couldn't possibly imagine our wardrobes without a trusty pair of jeans, but it's surprising to realise how much history is woven into every bit of denim you wear.
Today we wear jeans for fashion, for practicality or even for comfort, the list of reasons why is endless... in 1873 jeans were created out of a need, a need for work clothes that were actually durable and long lasting. Hard working people needed clothes that could endure anything, which is exactly what gave Jacob Davis the idea to use rivets at points of strains to make them last longer.
If you are wearing denim right now as you read this just take a glance at your jeans and you will see the classic five pocket design we associate with every pair of jeans today... bet you didn't think this idea originated back in 1873 hey? May 20th 1873 was the day the patent for this idea was granted to Jacob Davis and Levis Strauss... and as they say, the rest is history!
The 501 started its life as a functional item, and unknowingly it became a style leader....
But... why is it called the 501? Well, Levis originally used lot numbers to differentiate their products... therefore these were dubbed the 501.
The famous 'Two Horse' logo that you will still see on the jeans today was created in 1886 to demonstrate the strength of the jeans... it signifies that they couldn't even be ripped apart by two fully grown horses.
It took quite a few changes (and years) to get the 501's in their current state. In 1901 a second pocket was introduced, 1922 saw the addition of belt loops and it was 1936 when the first famous 'red tab' logo was stitched on.
From then the style has continued to grow and develop, you can still buy a classic pair of 501's... or you can buy an updated pair whether that be tailored, slim, skinny or whatever style takes your fancy.
Since the 1950's the 501's have been synonymous with teenage rebellion ever since screen icon Marlon Brando was seen wearing them in the film 'The Wild One'. Fast forward to the 1990s and Levi's became associated with Kurt Cobain and the grunge movement. In more recent years they have been worn by musicians such as Noel Gallagher and of course the cast of Stranger Things. Although ultimately the jeans longlasting success lies in the fact they can be worn by absolutely everyone!
* Fun fact: Did you know? The stitching on the back pockets of the jeans remains one of the oldest clothing trademarks still used today. Also wanted to know how to wash your jeans? The answer is you don't!
Why are Levis so popular?
So... first off let's start with the obvious... Levis invented jeans! This makes them the original out of all the jeans out there, so in other words, would you want to watch a rip off of Star Wars or would you want to watch the real thing?... It's a no-brainer you'd go for the original! Use the same logic when it comes to your jeans!
You don't have to worry about anything looking fake if you buy Levis... from the wash to the fit to the denim, all the way down to the last detail you will be getting quality, fashion and legacy in every single pair.
Levis have stood the test of time, this year marks their 145th birthday... and well if a jean has been made for that long, it's bound to be the most durable and long-lasting pair in your wardrobe. Your Levi's fit to you, and live your life with you... if you invest in a pair of these they are bound to be with you for life.
The Levis 501's beat our the little black dress AND the mini-skirt in Time's most iconic fashion items... and that says something on its own! We don't know what more we can say to convince you that these are the only jeans you should be buying.

Why you should NEVER wash your jeans...
Ever wondered how you should wash your jeans? Well... the simple answer is you shouldn't!
According to Levis CEO Chip Bergh, a good pay of jeans should never need to be washed... simple spot clean them with a toothbrush. Who knew hey!? The point Bergh is trying to make is we automatically think we need to wash something after we have worn it when in fact the product simply doesn't need it... it's just damaging your jeans and wasting water!
As Bergh says... "A good pair of denim doesn't really need to be washed in the washing machine except for very infrequently or rarely."
The Trucker Jacket
We've spoken about Levis inventing the original pair of jeans... BUT we also have to mention that they also created the denim jacket (that's two impressive things for one company to invent!) The earliest denim jacket dates back to the late 1880s, although back then it was referred to as the Blouse... the style we know and love today came into existence in 1962.
The Levi's much-loved Trucker jacket is now 51 years old... and 51 years on and no-one, repeat NO-ONE can do a denim jacket like Levis. Other fashion items may go out of style after a year or maybe even a couple of months, but a denim jacket will be in style forever.
The beauty of the Trucker jacket is it's for everyone... it's for the rocker musician that throws it on with their jeans, for the skater that throws it on over their tee and even for the girly girls that throw it on over their summer dresses.
