Whatever your dreams or goals, pursuing them should hold no restrictions, and one talented young woman from Cornwall is continuing to make waves in her quest to realise her own lofty ambitions.

Lauren Sandland has been surfing since the age of five, when she would hang out with her older brother James and his friends in their local village of Crantock, near Newquay. Skateboarding has also been a passion for the 16-year-old since a young age, but it is in the surf where she has really found her true calling. So much so that Lauren is now a team rider for Ann’s Cottage and competes in the UK and abroad with European WSL and Pro Junior events very much in her sights. Last year she was crowned English National Surfing Champion at the age of 15, and she regularly surfs with the England Junior squad. She recently surfed in Portugal under the watchful eye of her father, Neil, with whom she first caught the surfing bug while on holiday in France ten years ago. The rest, as they say, is history.

Pushing Boundries

From Fistral to Morocco, Lauren’s surfing journey has already provided a lifetime of memories and there are surely many more to be made in the years to come, with the ultimate aim of competing on the world stage. This phenomenal young woman continues to push the boundaries, continually stepping out of her comfort zone, proving that no matter what age or gender, you can achieve your goals.

Confidence & Determination

Surfing has certainly increased Lauren’s confidence in the water, and there’s no lack of self-belief or determination either. Just ask her father, Neil. She once refused his offer of help when her leash snapped and she swam back to shore when surfing in Portugal! It was to prove another defining moment in Lauren’s young career as she realised it was a situation she could deal with on her own.

Amazing Women

Lauren’s story is one of many millions across the world of amazing women doing amazing things, and the more we can share these truly remarkable achievements the closer we will get to a world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
